Announcements

Dear clients,

After 40 years in practice – including 36+ as the owner of Hillsborough Veterinary Clinic (HVC) – Dr. Roy MacDonald is retiring.  His last day will be June 15, 2023. He bought the practice July 1, 1987 with his wife Katy, who has kept it running behind-the-scenes from the first day.  She will also retire on June 15.

They both are thrilled that HVC will continue to operate as a locally owned business in the capable hands of Dr. Crystal Martinez and staff. Dr. Martinez worked with HVC as a vet assistant from 2010-2015 before graduating from NCSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016.  She returned to HVC as a veterinarian in 2018.

This is the second ownership transfer in HVC’s history. Dr. Mac purchased the clinic from Dr. Mike Murphy and ran the practice downtown at 110 W. King Street until they outgrew the building.  In 1993, HVC was among the first businesses opened in The Meadowlands.

There are too many people to name individually, but Dr. Mac and Katy thank past and present employees and especially all of you, who have entrusted HVC with the care of your pets. They look forward to joining you as HVC clients.

WAR EAGLE,

Roy, Katy and family: Anna, John, Zack, Brittany, Mac and JoLea
Weagle, Puck, Slider, Violet, Briar, and Catacootie

P.S.  Sue Johnson, Dr. Mac’s vet tech, retired on June 14. She met him when she was a vet tech at Dr. Gurley’s practice in Durham, and he got an after-school job cleaning out the kennels.  She started working at HVC in August 1987, a month after Dr. Mac bought the practice, and she beat him out the door by a day 😊

Honoring Dr. Mac

If you are so inclined, you are invited to make a donation in Dr. Mac’s honor to the Stephen Glenn Allgood Memorial Endowment at Auburn’s College of Veterinary Medicine.  Steve was a classmate of Dr. Mac’s and a good friend. Dr. Mac rallied his graduating class to establish the endowment, which has awarded scholarships to 8 vet school students, with preference given to North Carolina residents.

To make a donation go to the Auburn website, select other and begin typing in “Stephen Glenn Allgood Memorial Endowment.”  The option should populate.
